Guided in English, in the Aichi countryside
Guests from outside Japan are warmly welcome at Tokai Relaxation Oasis. Our retreat sits in the mountains of Asuke, in Toyota City, and we regularly host visitors who speak little or no Japanese. This page gathers the practical details that are most useful when planning a stay from abroad.
English-language assistance is available during your stay, and it is included in the English-language retreat rates. Our staff can help you settle in, understand the daily rhythm of the retreat, and talk through your fasting plan, meals, and any questions that come up while you are here.
This is everyday support rather than a full-time interpreter or concierge service. Some conversations may be simpler or slower than they would be in your own language, and a translation app on your phone is often helpful for longer or more detailed discussions.
Payment can be made by cash, bank transfer, or credit/debit card via Wise. Full rates, deposit details, and cancellation terms are on the Rates & Schedule page.
Please bring some Japanese yen in cash. Certain local expenses and services must be paid in cash, including the nearby bathing facility (¥300 per visit, about US$2). Many rural shops, buses, and taxis also do not accept foreign cards.
Cash can be difficult to obtain near the retreat, so please withdraw or exchange what you need before arriving.
Most guests arriving from overseas travel by train and bus, with a final bus ride to Asuke Bus Center, where our staff will meet you. Please telephone us before boarding so we know to expect you.
Access & Directions →Pack warm layers whatever the season — the mountains run 5–10°C cooler than Nagoya, and a long-sleeved layer is needed even in summer.
Full Packing List →Fasting here is gentle and paced to the individual, and our staff will talk with you about a plan that suits your condition and your goals. If you have a medical condition or take regular medication, please consult your doctor before booking, and let our staff know when you arrive.
The pages below cover the approach to fasting, the rhythm of a typical day at the retreat, and the questions guests ask most often.
